“Nakayoshi Mango” Mangoes grown as a new initiative to produce tropical fruits using the excess heat from biomass boilers that burn wood chips. When they are in season, you can buy them at the shop (Suzuki Zaimokuten) or you can also enjoy desserts made with the mangoes at “Akane Terrace” (open only on weekends during the warm months). The other biomass energy endeavors include growing coffee beans and eel farming. The eels are prepared at “Hayashiya” where you may purchase delicious grilled eel called “Kabayaki” to enjoy at home. Sunset at hot springs Most of the hot spring spots in this town face west, so in the early evening you can watch the beautiful sunset while soaking in the hot springs.Sunset along Batoʼs main streetEvery February and October, the sun sets right down the middle of the yellow line on this quiet, countryside road. The retro feel of the Showa period remains on this straight street undisturbed by electric poles for 800 meters.SunsetsBiomass Energytopics23
